Support Temple Israel Acquiring a New (to us) Torah

In August, we were heartbroken to learn that our existing Torah scrolls were no longer usable for public readings.  We mentioned this during the High Holy Day services and announced that we would be seeking a new Torah. To our delight, we have since found a beautiful used scroll. 

Since announcing our need for a new kosher Torah, Temple Israel of Catskill has received several generous donations for this purpose. We are widening the appeal to encourage full participation in the Mitzvah of bringing a Torah to our congregation. Your donation will help ensure the care, maintenance, and use of this new Torah.

Your donation to the Torah Fund will help us accomplish these goals:

• Acquire a new (to us) kosher Torah scroll.

• Establish a fund for regular Torah check-ups to preserve the scroll for future generations.

• Provide beautiful mantels (coverings) for everyday use and for the High Holy Days.

• Repair our Ark to create a safe, climate-controlled home for the Torah.

• Obtain a new Torah table to make reading and viewing the text easier.

• Welcome a scribe to the dedication ceremony and celebrate with a special event to welcome the new Torah into our sanctuary.

• Create a Torah Education Fund to deepen learning for all ages.

Any funds raised above our goals will support our Security Fund, helping to protect both our congregation and its sacred objects.
